Governor Sarah Palin, my HERO!
Thank you John McCain! What a SHOCK! This is a game changer. I had no idea who this woman was until he chose her for VP. The more I read about her, the more excited I get. A few stats on the presumptive Republican VP nominee.
1. Biden, Obama and McCain have no executive experience. As a mayor and then governor, she is the only one with any experience in that arena, 8 years in fact with an 80% approval rate as Governor.
2. 2nd Amendment. She is an avid hunter and pro-gun rights.
3. Anti-Abortion.
4. Believes that Creationism AND Evolution could be taught in school. Believes in debating differing views. Amen to that!
5. Supports traditional marriage.
6. Has a reputation of being a bad ass reformer (she's known as the Barricuda). Earned a reputation fighting establishment corruption, even within her own party.
7. Supports drilling in ANWR and supports the oil industry.
8. She is a marathon runner, pilot, hunter. Her high school sweetheart and husband, Todd, works for BP in the oil field. He is also a commercial fisherman, hunter, and 4 time, 2000 mile, "Iron Dog" snowmobile race winner. Frankly, he seems like a bad ass. They have a very nice young family and seem to be very down to earth.
9. Although lacking in foreign policy experience (as nearly all governors do), she has a vested interest in the war in Iraq. Her oldest son, Track, is deploying shortly to the region.
10. Does not believe Global Warming is human caused. Thank You!
11. Hates wasteful government spending and is a tax cutter.
Gov. Palin is very difficult for democrats to handle. Because of the pissed off Hillary supporters, they can not be too harsh and negative in their criticism. Initially (and even still) they lash out against her due to her lack of experience. It is true, she is young and relatively new to politics. However, since she has more experience than Barak, that argument quickly gets turned around to emphasize Obama's own lack of experience. Oops. So today they changed strategy. Now people are suggesting that her kids are too young, she should be tending to her family, not running for VP. OHHH REEAALLYYY! Try telling an already pissed feminist that she shouldn't be working and should be at home raising babies. Having a supportive husband willing to be an active participant in raising the family, she has been able to balance being governor and a mother. Besides, how old was JFK junior when JFK was pres? Bad strategy attacking her for being a working mom. That will backfire hard.
As we learn more and more about Gov. Palin, I think Americans will get increasingly excited about supporting her. Her story, family, youth and her personality is very attractive and really brings life to McCain's run for the White House. With adding her to the ticket it secured and rejuvenated the conservative base and creates an equally historic ticket as Obamas. It also will undoubtedly attract some centrist democrat female voters who voted for Hillary. I guess we will see how it pans out. This is a big gamble for McCain. I truly hope it works out. I wish her the best of luck.
I feels good to be excited to vote for a ticket instead of just voting against the other.
Perhaps in 4 years if we lose or 8 years if we win, we can see some dream tickets like Palin / Jindal, that would be sweet.

Amen to that! It is great to FINALLY have a woman running for a major office who doesn't have to disown her female identity to be on the ticket. Sarah Palin represents everything that makes being a woman in this great country so wonderful! She is a successful MOTHER and professional, and she respects her body and other women's bodies enough to be pro-LIFE - what a concept! I think this is the best move for McCain. I am on board 100% now. -Charity
We'll just have to agree to disagree Keith! As usual. :)
Disagree! On what?!? Please explain.
Just a few things that I have read about her...
"She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience."
"Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest."
"She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000" (you can probably tell that I am NOT a fan of Pat Buchanan!)
"She doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change." (Hello?)
"She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species-she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska." (Who needs animals anyway, right?)
"How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position." (Does he even know her at all?)
I'm not saying that I'm an Obama supporter...I honestly don't know who I am going to vote for. But I can say that I don't agree with many of the things that Sarah Palin has done or would do in office.
Good points Rachel. Allow me to respectfully counter.
1. Foreign Policy. What governor has foreign policy experience? Very few if any. What experience does Obama have? A superstar media tour of the middle east and europe! She is the only one with any executive experience. She is there to balance McCain's vast foreign policy knowledge with mayoral and gubernatorial leadership experience. She is not the most experienced VP pick, but she adds excitement that McCain needed. At least the Republican ticket is right side up. Experience on top of the ticket. It is hard to make the argument that she is not ready and Obama is.
2. Abortion. True she is against killing babies. As are nearly all religions. I personally believe that the choice is not whether to kill the baby or not, but whether to have sex or not. If you have sex you are accepting the possibility of becoming pregnant. Abortion should not be used as birth control. That said, if a woman does not consent to sex, as in rape, then she has a legitimate argument to terminate the pregnancy. Newborns can always find a loving family to raise them in America. I see no justification to slaughter them.
3. Pat Buchanan, agreed, I don't care for him. Obama has far worse buddies though. Terrorist Bill Ayres, Tony Rezko. Jeremiah Wright is just as extreme as Pat, if not more so.
4. Global warming... come on, don't tell me you fell victim to the propaganda of the Vast Green Conspiracy! What ever happened to the Ice Age scientists said we were entering in the 80's? What happened to the hole in the Ozone? It goes to show that even scientists have agendas and can't always be trusted. You do not need to look very far in history to see how bad scientists can be. According to some of them Blacks can't see at night!
5. Oil/Polar Bears.
Oil. This country currently runs on petroleum. While it is, lets use it! Lets keep our economy strong by drilling responsibly. And, from an environmental perspective, drilling is safer than importing. The great spills have been caused by transport ships, not drilling and pipelines. McCain has the right approach to moving us off oil. Nuclear! And offering large cash prizes to revolutionary designs that would move us in the direction away from oil. Let the market fix the oil situation, because whatever government touches, it screws!
Polar Bears.
I think that the reason she opposed polar bears being on the endangered species list is because liberals have become experts at slowly and slyly forcing their agendas. You see, once polar bears are considered endangered, it prevents use of lands. And even more important, it forces government to spend billions to prevent "Global Warming" that would endanger the bears habitat. Putting polar bears on the list was not to protect the bears but to force environmental laws. Alaska has had great success protecting polar bears without the fed. gov. involved.
6. Vetting
Her vetting process was one of the best kept secrets in modern politics. She has been in the vetting process for the past 5-6 months. It was a big gamble for McCain. Like any other gamble, if he wins, he's a genius. If he loses, he's an idiot. Time will tell. One thing is for sure, Republicans like me are in love!
I have never been this excited about a campaign since she joined.
Rachel, I love you. I love politic schmolitic talk. Whoever you vote for, it is obvious you are a patriot. I am glad people care about the direction their country takes. I wish we could holler at each other in person. We miss you guys.
It's fun, isn't it? :)
I have to stay that I do think that we have had a large negative impact on the environment. Not all humans, but most definitely developed countries. You can't tell me that all of the pollution, trash, etc. that we produce has not speeded up the process of global warming. You should look at downtown Denver on a smoggy day...gross!
I also think that it is sad to see how many animals are that close to the endangered species list, whether or not "liberals" make a big deal about it or not for their agendas.
For myself, I am most definitely pro-life...I believe that even if I was raped (Heaven forbid) that I would keep the baby, but who knows? I really don't want to question the choices of someone in that awful situation. Also, if abortion is made illegal, it has a direct correlation to the rights of women. Not saying that this would happen, but look at the Middle East...some women are not given any rights and I feel like it is such a slippery slope when the government starts dictating decisions for all women. Men don't seem to have that problem. haha
I miss you guys too!!! We need to all meet up so we can argue in person! :)
Oh and what was the comment that you deleted?
Warning, you are about to hears rants from a very weary, tired man. Reader discretion advised as this might not make any sense.
Protecting babies will not translate to women losing the right to vote, own property or anything else. If anything, it would elevate opinions on the profound and special abilities of women. Somehow, being a "feminist" has meant to become anti-feminine. As a hard core lesbian stuck in a man's body, there is not a greater supporter and admirer of women than I. I am going to write a rant on Women and Feminists. Check the blog in a couple days and we can argue some more.
As to the man caused global warming, I find it odd that people from high population areas think that the whole world is doomed because their city is hazy. Denver, New York, LA. They are but specks on the globe. In order to illustrate the vastness of the earth and how truly small and insignificant humans are, consider this. There are approximately 6 billion people on the earth. Texas has a total area of 268,820 sq. miles. 1 sq mile = 640 acres. So that means there are 172,044,800 acres in Texas. Divide that by 6 billion = .02867 It shows that everyone in the world can fit in Texas and own almost 1/3 acre lot.
Prefer a more tropical climate? Everyone on earth can fit in Brazil and have .56 acre each. Now, take the land area of the earth, over 36.65 billion acres. Once the math is done, every one person on earth could have 6.1 acres all to themselves. When you look at the big picture, we really are quite insignificant. I think it is arrogant to think that we few inhabitants on the vast earth can control or manipulate the climate. Common sense needs to win the day. Responsible conservation can be achieved without breaking economies and without Al Gore and his freak show doomsday supporters.
And I double posted my response, that is the reason for the deleted comment.
Give Alex a high five for me. Then down low, perhaps he will be too slow?
I'm going to take a nap now.
